Below is a curriculum map for grades k-5 that focuses on developmentally appropriate art lessons in 2D and 3D artmaking for children. The work came out of my final project for my curriculum design course at Teachers College. Each lesson took into consideration the diverse populations of students and their varied backgrounds and how these experiences could expand on student’s prior knowledge and build on new ways of thinking and working through the visual — using hands-on activities with such mediums as digital photography, animation, painting, drawing, and sculpture to develop a strong visual language for encoding and decoding their working worlds. Each grade level was broken down by developmental overview, focusing on where children were with processing, physically, and curriculum content, focusing on the sequencing of lessons and activities introducing students to new media of art and new mediums of materials to grow their visual language.
