The Irvington Woods Park—Cornell Soil Data Survey

The work below documents the soil data findings and research that looked to build on the village of Irvington's Community Forest Management Plan. The goal of the soil research work and report was to see if the soil in each of the seven stands that make up the 252 acres of woods was inhibiting the regeneration of the forest's understory. The findings suggest that the soil sampled in the forest is of optimum health as all seven sights scored in the "Very High" (80 - 100%) for "Overall Quality Score." This work provides another data nugget to other research currently undertaken by the Village of Irvington and the O'Hara Nature Center. Jean F. Bonhotal (Director of Soil Management at Cornell Waste Management Institute) and CJ Reilly III (Director of Education, O'Hara Nature Center) carried out the research work this past June 2022.
