The work below represents my time as an educational and horticulture developer working with the Village of Irvington N.Y. and the Recreation and Parks Department. The timeline of work below spans a total of four summers, from 2016 to the present. The scope of the work and my responsibilities have included overseeing day-to-day operations of gardens, grounds, and infrastructure. Additionally, I coordinate with the Recreation and Parks Department to lead trainings, tours, and workshops with such groups as the Irvington School District, the village day camp, and the surrounding Rivertown schools. I developed the curriculum and educational materials for eight of the ONC’s educational gardens. Along with the incredible support of horticulturist, Peter Strom (from Strom Horticulture LLC); the superintendent of Recreation and Parks Department, Joseph D. Archino; the Irvington Woods Committee; and the Village Board of Irvington, we have been able to transform a once-neglected area into a magical educational showpiece. Residents of Irvington and the surrounding Rivertowns can come learn about best practices ranging from organic management and creating native pollinator gardens and yards to deer solutions and their negative impact on native flora in Westchester.
