The research work below illustrates 2+ years of data collection, analysis, and interpretation from Irvington middle and high school students (8th - 12th grade) in the Changing Forest research program at the O'Hara Nature Center, in partnership with the Harvard Forest Schoolyard Ecology program. This curriculum enables students to use, create, and evaluate real research data in forestry and land use management. They gain hands-on experience with LiDAR, setting up Long-Term Ecological Research Sites, Data Analytics, GIS, and conducting comprehensive forestry inventory.
