Hi, Iβm CJ Reilly β a graduate student in Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) at Cornell University π, specializing in Forest Ecology and Management π². My work explores how forest ecosystems function πΏ and how communities β especially youth π©βπ§βπ¦ β play a vital role in stewarding biodiversity, from microbial networks below ground π¦ to dynamic forest canopies above π³. Rooted in the belief that learning happens best through experience, I design and lead opportunities where people can observe, explore, and discover the natural world firsthand. Whether Iβm working with recreation groups π΅ββοΈ, school districts π«, or local residents π‘, my goal is to foster a deeper understanding of place and a lasting commitment to greenspace stewardship π±. I believe that when learners piece together ecological relationships on their own β with the right support and context β those insights stick for life. Currently on academic leave, I serve as Director of the OβHara Nature Center ποΈ, managing urban forestry grants π³π° and overseeing land stewardship for Irvington Woods Park as the villageβs certified arborist πΏπͺ. In this role, I lead environmental education programs π, develop NYSSLS-aligned field experiences π©βπ¬π¨βπ¬, and support student-driven research through the Harvard Forest Schoolyard Ecology Program π. These projects reflect my commitment to bridging research, education, and real-world conservation β while cultivating observation, responsibility, and wonder in the next generation of environmental stewards π. π© Letβs connect: cjr272@cornell.edu
